The aeroplane can be removed from the ashtray. As regards condition, the chrome has dulled with age, the ashtray shows signs of use, and the plastic "propellers" are both warped at the extremities.

As can be seen in the published photograph, the map shows considerable light ageing and the hand colouring has faded. The map (now removed from the frame for inspection) has been mounted in a way that hides the fact that there is a small loss of image to Western Australia and a very small loss in the east to the names allocated to landmarks of New Zealand. The remaining printed area is 373mm by 470mm. There is a small hole at the fold just south of River Coran. The map does not appear to be laid down, but is firmly affixed at the left and right edges to the backing sheet.

The printed map is complete and in good condition. There is a little dirty smudging in the left-hand margin (does not affect the image). The linen backing is intact but faded/discoloured in places. (See additional images). The case is intact with the original paper label but it is somewhat dilapidated. Overall, in good condition considering its design and use.

There is some light foxing throughout, particularly visible on the blank end pages. Pages are thumbed and uneven, some manuscript notations to half title and on page 466 in the top margin. Page 175/176 is repaired. Manuscript notation in the margin of page 153. Despite these minor faults overall a quite pleasing and very legible example of this rare and important book.

In very good condition, colour bright and no repairs, tears or foxing evident.
