Very nice original patination to the base. However, we note significant restoration and replacements elements in particular to the back, base and backboard. Internal shelves appear to have been removed. Still presents attractively.

Finish to top and sides attractive but distressed throughout with numerous bumps, marks, stains etc. Drawer front appears to be cleaned back or refinished at some stage in the 20th century, knobs period but likely not original. Some losses to the cock beading in particular, to the top right drawer and the second long drawer on the left-hand side. Overall, a very attractive and presentable piece. Drawer runners working well. Pressed brass drawer knobs are period but later replacement as the inside of the drawer fronts show plugged areas where turned wooden knobs would have been fitted. Full cedar back boards are period and in keeping with the chest of drawers but may be a very good replacement. No further provenance available. 

The information that we have at hand is that the current vendor purchased it from a sale some time ago which was offering items from the Rose Inn at Jericho.

Significant alternations, repairs and restorations which is reflective of the estimate (19th century and later). Presents well but of note legs later hardware, alternations to the top. Numerous other patches and smaller repairs. Legs will need to be re-fitted to make this structurally sound.

Original condition showing no signs of evidence or restoration. Good overall finish with even colour and patination. Minor losses to the parquetry decoration (in particular to the back leg edge and around the leg feet) ,which are not noticeable due to how comprehensive the overall work is. Old shrinkage crack to the carcass joinery where the seat meets the back with some associated minor veneer losses. Rare honest example.

A fine example, overall scuffs, scratches and showing signs of age. Has been professionally restored in the last 50 years. Structurally sound, unfortunately this piece has been re-finished. Has a good colour, but lacks 19th century patination.

A good quality set, overall original finish. The backrests on several have been professionally reattached (which is often the case). Some minor losses to the applied carved capitals to the top of the styles. A good honest set of chairs, structurally sound and perfectly useable.

The top appears to be refinished a long time ago. The base and legs with good patination and most likely original revived finish. Antique but replacement brass draw handles. Internal evidence suggesting knobs were originally fitted. Left-hand side deep cellarette draw lacking partitions. Locks original, one turned rondel missing from carved fan applied carving below central draw. Scuffs, scratches, and shrinkage cracks evident as to be expected with age. Front left hand side corner of the top repaired a long time ago. Low back a replacement most likely in the 1950’s. A small veneer loss to the top draw blade on the left-hand side. A rare example, would respond well to sympathetic restoration

Overall good original condition, scuffs, bumps, and bruises as expected with age. Good patination overall. Original hardware. The carved pedestal base is of a similar period but possible associated. The veneer to the chamfered cabinet is of a different grain and figure, this may have been replaced a very long time ago. A rare cabinet that presents very well.

Pedestal and splay legs with revived finish. Restoration to the bun feet for the table to stay level. The single piece top possibly an old replacement, with filled nail holes to the surrounding edge and sanding marks below the finish. The drawer carcass with later restoration using old timber with colour stain applied. Stands well an attractive piece.

Finish is a melted and burnished wax finish, applied in the 20th century. The table is constructed of 19th century elements but has been considerably altered. The construction is heavy with also later veneer used. Attractive but with issues.

An honest piece, scuffs, scratches, and knocks as expected with age. No major repairs or restoration evident. One molding detached but present. Due to possible sun bleaching or other reasons for colour matching the exterior has had some light coloured polished applied a very long time ago, this has not been applied to the fitted interior which displays a different colour and fine timber configuration. A fine example. A later leatherette writing surface.

Structurally sound and secure. Leather upholstery in overall good order. Chair frame and carved areas have had some over polishing most likely due to wear and sun bleaching. Scuffs, knocks, and bruising evident as expected with age, most evident on the arm rest terminals. A comfortable and generous chair.

Appears to be complete, firm, and in original condition. We note numerous bumps, marks, and scuffs to the top as to be expected with age. There are a couple of more significant deeper bruisers to the top but this  doesn't detract from the beauty of this piece. A good example of its type.

Very faded on the left hand side. Several locks missing. Old nail hole restorations to the top (filled). Mellow and worn patination throughout.

A good example, structurally sound with overall scuffs, scratches and wear as to be expected. A small crack on the seat radiating from the one of the turned back spindles. Later finish applied over what was originally present, most likely due to wear.

In good but restored condition. No damage or losses noticeable. Structurally sound and usable. Lacking patination. The top surface with minor scratches. A good example but restored.

Structural restoration and replacement of missing parts appear to have been done by a professional cabinet maker, these have never been coloured or polish exposing the raw wood. The chair finish is not original and later, however structurally sound. Upholstery spring, horsehair, and drop in circular seat appear to be original and period. The back rest upholstery board is a later ply replacement. A rare and important chair which would respond well to professional yet sympathetic restoration. This has come from a Melbourne private collection and is obviously an unfinished project. This was bought privately by the vendor at auction about 30 years ago.

Original condition showing no evidence of repairs or restoration. Original finish, good overall colour and patination but slightly dry in some areas. Small areas of water staining. Minor scuffs and scratches overall (as to be expected). Bruises and knocks to the sharp edges of the legs due to age. Original frame supporting blocks to the underside have been reglued (a long time ago). A rare pair in honest condition.

Honest original condition, no repairs or restoration evident. Original finish with very minor scuffs and scratches as expected with age. A good clean example.

Vinyl upholstery in good condition with minor scuffs and rubbing. Underneath the lift out seat cushion, a wooden board has been screwed in place of replacing upholstery springs. Polished chair frame legs with original finish. Later aftermarket corner blocks have been screwed in place and metal right angle brackets attached behind the front leg and to the side rails connecting to the frame. Re-glueing the chair legs and side rails correctly would make these unnecessary. Would respond well to minor restoration.

Secondary timbers are a mix of Huon, Kauri and Baltic Pine.

This was consigned without the backboard, so this would need to be reinstated. The lower door is absent to the case, as is the back molding where the door would have been. Case has been refinished a long time ago, now with overall scuffs and scratches as to be expected with age. Some shrinkage separations to the original joins on the sectional dial surround as to be expected with age. The dial with original finish. Overall crazing and rubbing to the roman numerals, original hands. On the dial below the word Melbourne, the original clock number appears to be erased leaving old shadow mark. Later replacement pendulum with wood rod, cast bob, and later cast weight most likely done in the last fifty years. A rare example in a solid Huon pine case. Would respond well to sympathetic restoration. The original movement will need a full overhaul and appears not to have been running for possibly several decades. Appears to be present and correct, and of good substantial quality.
