  • Condition Report

Some crackling and deterioration visible to the leaves and surface, in particular there is a small hole in the lower left hand example. Card mount toned and there appears to be some movement in the display. All this aside, this piece is completely original and the best example we have ever come across. Good condition considering age. Frame also original and in good condition but with some imperfections to be expected with age.

  • Condition Report

Condition is as photographed (barn find condition). Appears to be complete, original and untouched with many imperfections. It is unrideable and would need sympathetic restoration to make it sturdier (currently the wheels are tired together to prevent any excess movement in the frame). A fabulous piece, the only example we’ve seen. This appears to be full agricultural made blacksmith piece. Which offers more tantalising questions than answers. It was found on a farm in the Barossa valley. We suggest talking direct to Scammell’s for the property details.

Fine original finish with fine colour and patination. Original hardware. No repairs or restoration. Scuffs, scratches, and bruises as expected with age. Shrinkage separations to the joinery most particular to the inside mitered lid frame with shrinkage crack running across the top marquetry panel on the lid (as can be seen in images). These are all genuine signs of age. A very nice example.

  • Condition Report

Original finish, patination and colour. Original feet have been reattached with some surplus glue and nails. One small section of the rear left bun foot missing, this is internal and can’t be seen from the outside. Lid is bowed as is often the case. Parquetry veneer in good order. General scuffs and scratches as to be expected with age. The two tongues of the lock strike plate fitted to the lid are missing. A nice honest example.

  • Condition Report

Original finish, colour, and patination. Three shrinkage separation cracks to the lid with smaller ones radiating from the corners. Original brass hinges. The original red velvet covering to the bottom of the box has been glued down in sections where it has been lifting. This is an incredible rare survivor retaining its maker’s label. Two renewed old screws fitted on bottom hinge. The lid and carcass slightly warped as is often the case with these boxes, doesn’t detract from its overall appearance. One parquetry veneer specimen fitted to the inside of the lid slightly lifting. A good original example of its type. Would respond well to a light clean and wax.
