INWARDS MAIL: 1872 cover from GB to HMAS Basilisk at Sydney "or Elsewhere", endorsed "Via brindisi" but with 6d brown Plate '11' only & largely very fine 'INSUFFY STAMPED/VIA-BRINDISI' h/s, apparently carried in a naval or closed bag, endorsed by the recipient "recd at/Sydney 25 Nov 1872", minor blemishes. Very attractive. Carried per "Massilia", departed Southampton 26/9/1872; "Sumatra", departed Suez 13/10/1872; & "Behar", departed Galle 28/10/1872, arrived Sydney 25/11/1872. [If correctly paid 9d, it would have arrived 21/10/1872. The addressee was paymaster aboard the "Basilisk", which was on the Australian Station. Port Moresby was named after the ship's master Captain John Moresby]
