Leather covering original seam has become separated from the neck to approximately half way down flask and on the opposite side separation a quarter of the way down the neck.

Pages tanned and a little crisp - which is normal for this book.

As mentioned in the catalogue description, the dust jacket is present, but defective. The binding is original and tight but there is some discolouration at the top edge where the book appears to have been exposed to more light than the rest of the volume. Very slight foxing to blank end papers and the fore edges of the pages. All text pages and plates are present and in good condition. The maps are all present and appear to be accompanied by a later photograph of the previous owner in uniform. 

Lacks blank front end paper.

While the book is complete and the binding is original, it is reinforced on the inside front cover and held in place by the fabric mesh in the back. The end papers and the four edges of the pages are slightly foxed but the text is largely clean and the images are unaffected. 

The book is complete and the binding is original and tight. There is superficial discolouration to the blue colour of the binding and there is a small fault at the top of the back cover (but no loss). Very light foxing in places to the fore edges of some pages and the blank end papers. The photo plates are in excellent condition, none are affected by any foxing, tears or other faults. 

The painting and the frame are in very good original condition; no faults, repairs or damage visible. 

The vendor is a private collector from Melbourne, who consigned this and one other unrelated item. 

The book presents very well with only superficial wear to the cloth binding, mostly evident around the spine. No foxing noted however a label has been affixed under the photograph of the author on page vi and there is show through from that sticker on the title page. No other faults.
