Lot #401 A circa January 1916 silver gelatin photograph (13.5 x 19cm), laid down on backing card (W. Mason & Co. of Bridge Road, Richmond), depicting a group of men in front of the recruiting office under a banner which reads "RICHMOND'S 1st QUOTA of RECRUITS For Australia's New Army of 50,000". The men are photographed with their recruiting officers and a young, uniformed mascot. Overall 24 x 29cm. In January 1916, the Army announced that it needed 50,00 men for the "New Army", and 16,000 reinforcement
