Lot 570A rare Korean palanquin (Uija Gama), box construction in elm with slatted base and railings along both sides, original iron mounts including rings and square section openings for carrying poles which would have been borne by four carriers. Late Joseon Dynasty, 19th century. Gamas were primarily used by royalty and senior government officials/dignitaries. 32cm high, 65cm wide, 99cm deep. Provenance: Private collection Melbourne, acquired September 1980 from Honeychurch Antiques, Hong Kong.
