Lot 226AUSTRALIA - Mail involved in Incidents or Interruptions in transit to Australasia: 21 Aug.1936 roughly opened cover London-Melbourne, participant in the famed 'Desert incident', where Horsa on Aug 29, during Imperial Airways service flight IE473 (departed Aug.22), overshot Bahrain Aerodrome by 100kms at night, a consequence of the airfield lights not having been switched on, the pilots becoming lost and making a forced-landing in the desert, at Salwa Wells. The aircraft was found 40 hours later,
