Description:
1959-1972 concert programs, including 9 December 1959 concert "in honour of The Eleventh Anniversary of the proclamation of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights" featuring Heifetz and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (broadcast live in the United States, Canada, Europe and Latin America); plus 4 others. Also, a signed photograph (by Jay Heifetz) of Heifetz's friend and collaborator, Gregor Piatigorsky. (6 items).
9 December 1959: While Heifetz had been a frequent live radio broadcast guest on the Bell Telephone Hour programs during the height of their popularity, live orchestral music on the radio had diminished in popularity. However, this opportunity to appear for a broadcast that was to be heard live around the world under the auspices of the United Nations was an invitation Heifetz decided to accept.
November 1962 & September 1963: For several seasons, good friends and musical colleagues Heifetz and Piatigorsky hosted an acclaimed chamber music concert series at several different venues around the United States.
13 August 1967: A sold-out perfomance at the Hollywood Bowl - a very convenient commute for Los Angeles-based Heifetz.
8 April 1972: One of the last public appearances together by Heifetz and Piatigorsky.
