Henry Mortlock Ommanney arrived in the Colony in August 1830 aboard the "Edward Loombe", aged 13. Two years later he was allocated 2560 acres!! & was appointed Assistant Government Surveyor. He returned to London in 1847 & in August 1850 was named as a defaulter in Western Australian Mining Company shares. He states "...my government appointment becomes more irksome every day...as the summer approaches the Governor will again expect me to strap on my blanket and take up my residence in the bush" and "...It is perfectly astonishing what rapid strides every Sect makes in this Colony...here profess to hold all denominations on the same footing and give them all equal support...I took the mails up to...the Government Resident and as he was busy I opened them myself [!!]...here it is an obvious fact that money can be safely invested in land etc to immense advantage..."
