Description:
NORTHERN TERRITORY - DARWIN: 1942 (Apr & July) airmail covers both with 'RAAF/PO UNIT No7' cds & ' 7 /---/OPENED/BY/CENSOR' cachet (with 'NOT' excised), cover with FPO 072 cds used at Adelaide River & ' 7 /Opened by Censor' label tied by Army censor cachet, cover with APO 065 cds used at Darwin with ' 7 /PASSED/BY/CENSOR/ 6 ' cachet that continued in use at the Base APO, and cover with UPS 350 cds used at Darwin with typed 'OPENED BY CENSOR' label - the only recorded example; illustrated by John Little at page 89 - that was probably a provisional military label tied by Army censor cachet; a few mostly minor problems. A very scarce group from after the Japanese attacked Darwin in February 1942, causing the civil censorship station to be removed to Alice Springs. (5)
