Description:
1877 Stamp + Coupon 9d (without control handstamp, the coupon - which clearly belongs - has been rejoined), 1/6d (very fine) & 3/- (the coupon damaged at lower-right) all with the coupon still attached, double-boxed datestamps of Riddell's Creek (9d) or Stawell and the latter two additionally cancelled on arrival at Melbourne. Ex Ray Kelly: acquired on 1.12.2007 for $604. [The sender was supposed to retain the coupon as proof of sending. Intact examples are therefore rarely seen. The system was expensive, inconvenient & unpopular. The Riddell's Creek d/s is known used postally: for postal usage of the similar Burrumbeet d/s see Lot 333]
