Description:
1878 Emergency Printings on Coloured Papers 2d violet/lilac SG 198, well centred and very attractive, a few minor tonespots on the reverse, light part-duplex '40' cancel of Echuca, Cat £1000. RPSofV Certificate (2017). This is another rare stamp, most examples of which submitted for expertising have been simply wrong, or faked. [Geoff Kellow at page 191 states "This rare stamp was not discovered by philatelists until 1904, since which time probably 30-40 used copies have come to light. No unused copies, no multiples, and no covers have been reported". The key to it being correctly identified is that it is on a distinctive paper, that was otherwise used only for the Laureates 2d mauve/lilac SG 167/a]
