Other lots in this sale << < LOT 39 YOUNG GRIFFO, 2 ounce boxing gloves worn by "Griffo" (Albert Griffiths) when he met "Torpedo" (Billy Murphy) in a bout for the World Featherweight Championship in Sydney on 22nd July 1891. These gloves were owned by W.McFayden of Sydney, and sold on behlf of 'Boys Town' Memorial Hospital during a radio broadcast on 2UE Sydney in 1943. {Young Griffo (1871-1927) was Australia's first world boxing champion}. LOT 40 BOB FITZSIMMONS, hand-made horse-shoe, stamped at top "Bob Fitzsimmons", and impressed with 15 stars; together with book "The Fighting Blacksmith - The Story of Bob Fitzsimmons" by Odd [London, 1976]. {Bob Fitzsimmons (1863-1917, born in Helston, Cornwall, lived in Timaru NZ 1872-83, before moving on to Australia & USA. He made boxing history as the sport's first three-division world champion, and World Heavyweight Champion 1897-99. One of the hardest punchers in boxing history.
