Description:
THE PERKINS BACON DIE PROOFS: State 4, a "set" of four, in black, rose-red, green & bright ultramarine on glazed to highly glazed thin card all reduced to stamp-size & affixed to slightly larger pieces of backing cards (green is 69x68mm) BW #70DP(15)A to D, Cat $45,000. Superb!
Both the exhibit page & the ACSC state these are all on "thin wove paper" but they are definitely on thin glazed card. However, Geoff Kellow has advised us "They are certainly die proofs pulled by Seymour Bennett at Somerset House late in March 1914 for final testing of the die". [Arthur's set affixed to cards 89x104mm sold for $17,850. Lord Vestey's similar proofs in green & ultramarine on small backing pieces sold for £2880 each (equal to £11,520 for four such proofs)]
