AUSTRALIA: 1887 United Fire Brigades Jubilee Medal (42mm), Queen Victoria facing left on cross patée hand engraved with images of firefighting equipment, rev. 'Won by / J. Harvey / Chiltern V.F.B. / 6 men Hose Practice / Feb 25th 1887' hand made in white metal, manufactured by 'Armfield / Collingwood'. [Prior to the formation of the MFB in 1891 volunteer brigades bore the names of insurers, buildings would have an insurance brigades Coat of Arms or Firemark fixed to the exterior denoting which insurance company had the building under its care, in the event of a fire the brigade that owned the mark would fight the fire. It was not unknown for other firefighting companies to impede their progress and do their best to hinder the operation!]
