1934 Kisch-Griffin Defence Committee petition Card to Attorney-General Robert Menzies demanding release of Egon Kisch & Gerald Griffin jailed "because they could not pass an absurd language test which is not given to all immigrants...", minor blemishes, unused. [This was a major cause célèbre. Kisch was a German Jew & Communist who was invited by private groups to lecture in Australia. He was considered political dynamite, was treated as a criminal & deported on the "Strathaird", from which he jumped overboard, breaking a leg]
