1864 double-rate cover to Scotland via the all-sea route with Second Roulettes 1/- brown (SG 39-42 group) tied to by diamond-numeral '1', 'PORT ADELAIDE/ JU27/64/S.A' cds, Adelaide & superb 'EDINR M2/ 2 /AU15/64' transit b/s, 'PRESTON PANS' arrival b/s, a little soiled. Ex Michael Blake. [Docketing at left indicates the enclosed letter was written at Melbourne on 25/6/1864. The cover was probably carried by coastal vessel to Port Adelaide where it was put into the mails; then per "Northam", departed Melbourne 27/6/1864; "Nemesis", departed Galle 20/7/1864; & "Ceylon", departed Alexandria 6/8/1864; arrived Marseilles 12/8/1864. The long route mail per "Ripon" arrived Southampton 19/8/1864, by which time the letter had been delivered in Scotland. It was apparently missent via Marseilles]
