The scale is inlaid silver on brass

There is significant mould damage in particular to the margins that appears to have been water damage at some stage in its life. All pages appear to be legible and stable. Rear board detached overall fair to good condition only. Most of the plates are tipped in to the centre line margin and can be turned like the leaves of the book, with a couple of examples loose. The first third of the logbook focuses on the journey from Singapore to Hong Kong and Canton, arriving off the coast of China on October 18. At the halfway point of the log, it shifts from Singapore to Hobart Town (Van Diemen’s Land).

Case original, as are fittings and brass hardware, later sympathetic over polish. Later brass plaque fitted to top lid. Winding key appears to be original. Movement appears to intact and complete. Not currently running, most likely in need of a service. Detent escapement, escape wheel and balance all seem to be ok, possible depthing issue with escape wheel and balance roller. A good example of its type, would benefit from a professional overhaul.

Currently running, appears to be all original. Case, brass hardwear, and gimble fittings are tarnished and discoloured as to be expected with age (unrestored). Spring catch to top lid need slights adjustment as does the lock. Winding key appears to be original. Movement would benefit from an overhaul, slightly oily, and discolouration to the frosted plates. But as noted running and keeping time. Back plate of movement is stamped and numbered, matching serial number on dial. A good honest example. Adjustment needed on hour hand as this is slightly advanced when minute hand is at the twelve position.

Currently running and operational. Movement would benefit from a clean. Original case with hardware, slight scuffs, bumps, and bruises as expected with age. Movement and gimble case identically numbered. Tip of state of wind hand most likely a later repair. Good example of its type.

Some minor losses to the coring end to be expected with its age. Shrinkage crack running through the back of the piece also to be expected with age. Presents very well in our opinion a very attractive piece.

There is a tape measure, it is currently complete wound inside the piece, with some gentle and dexterous fingers it could be made operational again, but currently not.

Balance of platform escapement tick and starts running when clock is wound. Movement operational and striking the watches. appears to be all original condition. Brass case and bezel discoloured and corroded likely due to being used on a boat. Would benefit from a clean, polish, and lacquer. We would recommend the movement to have a professional overhaul, but currently running.
