Barn find condition. In need of restoration. Numerous poor quality screw repairs. Split to top. Metal bracing to legs. Finish rubbed and worn but appears to be original.

The top appears to be refinished a long time ago. The base and legs with good patination and most likely original revived finish. Antique but replacement brass draw handles. Internal evidence suggesting knobs were originally fitted. Left-hand side deep cellarette draw lacking partitions. Locks original, one turned rondel missing from carved fan applied carving below central draw. Scuffs, scratches, and shrinkage cracks evident as to be expected with age. Front left hand side corner of the top repaired a long time ago. Low back a replacement most likely in the 1950’s. A small veneer loss to the top draw blade on the left-hand side. A rare example, would respond well to sympathetic restoration

All chairs structurally sound and in good usable condition, no re-gluing necessary. Original finish throughout and nicely patinated. Scuffs, scratches, bruises, and rubbing as to be expected with age. Two of the chairs with professional sympathetic repairs to the top corner of the back rest. The back rests on all the chairs appear to have been re-secured to the uprights in a sympathetic way. A lovely set of sophisticated Australian chairs.

Lovely original finish and patination with fine overall even colour. Minor scuffs, scratches, and a small amount of rubbing, as to be expected with age. Fine original brass castors. Paper label is an exceptional example. Only loss to be mentioned is the lower section of one blackwood knob to the single draw where it meets the draw face. A rare and lovely example.

Please note, the top is manufactured from two pieces of solid book matched cedar, as opposed to a single piece as previously described. A small amount approximately 10cm long of the carved collar where it meets the tri-base is absent, this appears to have been missing for a very long time, this does not detract from the overall appearance. All original with good colour finish and patination. Scuffs, scratches, bruises, and rubbing as to be expected with age. The top with antique wear, stains, and watermarks. A very fine and generously sized example.

Scuffs, scratches, and wear as to be expected with age, most noticeable on the carved front scroll upright. Paint spots throughout. Possibly the middle turning of the legs may have been ebonized in the regency style. A very good classical example, in honest original condition and would respond well to sympathetic restoration.

Structurally sound and solid in usable condition. Back rollerball castors replaced with a later riser block above. Front brass castors are period but possible replacements. Loss of veneer crossbanding to the lower chair rail above the left-hand front leg Refinished some time ago, now showing signs of age. With scuffs, scratches, and rubbing as to be expected. Areas of colour patchiness to various veneer sections throughout. An unusual use of native timbers, an elegant example. The upholstered seat frame appears to be Australian cedar, with the external display areas crossbanded in a thick Eucalypt/Redgum veneer. Legs, armrests and spoon back frame appear to be Eucalypt/Redgum which is also faced in a Eucalypt/Redgum veneer. Note loss one square inch veneer piece on the back of upper frame.

The base and lyre support with original finish and patination and overall colour. The stings in the lyre support appear to be old replacement. Scuffs, scratches, dents, and rubbing throughout as to be expected. The checkerboard inlaid top with scuffs, scratches, and rubbing; and appears to be a revived original finish as this is the surface that has the most wear from use. A fine example of its type

Original condition, good original finish and colour. Legs solid and drop finial present. Numerous scuffs, scratches and knocks. Parquetry t top in original condition scuffs and scratches as to be expected with age. One area of old scribble scratch. A few slightly lifting specimen veneers. Very honest original condition.

Some damage to the zinc, generally good farmhouse rustic condition, back boards may have been replaced.

Appears to be in original condition throughout. Structurally sound and solid. Losses, chips, dents, and bruises as to be expected with age. Most notable on the bottom molding above the feet. Shrinkage separation to the joins. Corrosion, exposure and tannin stains around the original nails used in the joinery. Original finish showing heavy patination, crazing, and sap buildup leeching from the pine construction. A few small areas of this have been cleaned back exposing the pine grain and figure. Escutcheon missing from the door. Would respond well to sympathetic restoration and a wax.

Lovely honest original condition. Minor scuffs, scratches, and blemishes as to be expected with age. All draws running smoothly showing very little signs of use. Nice colour, patination and finish throughout. Minor chips to the plinth base on the right-hand side.

Original condition with no evidence of repairs or restoration. Good colour and patination. Shrinkage separation to the central join of the top. Minor cracks and losses to the inlaid mirror decoration on the column. A small amount of movement and flex where the column meets the decorative molded base where it is supported by four brackets, this is mostly due to the design and construction of this piece. The table is still secure and study. A fine example would respond well to a polish and a wax.

Huon pine front left leg most likely a replacement. Myrtle top rail and Blackwood H stretcher. The other legs appear to be mountain ash. Predominantly original finish heavily worn in areas. Areas of repairs and restoration with nails securing the jawbone uprights to the seat. Shrinkage cracks to the solid seat on the right-hand corner. Nails in the left-hand corner in the seat. Frame in need of some re-gluing to improve its structural integrity. A rare chair that would respond well to professional sympathetic restoration. No Peddle stamp present. This design is possibly an earlier prototype/period copy with design differences or a workshop workman’s piece using various off cuts of different timbers as the other examples we have handled are in Blackwood.

Original polish and finish throughout. We do note a large area of tanin staining to the lid and a small crack to the front left hand edge.

Original condition with no repairs or restorations. Separation crack to the original join of the seat. Secondary crack due to shrinkage to the left side if the seat section, still sound and solid. Scuffs, scratches, bruises as expected with age. Still sound and solid. Mechanism operational. A good example of its type. The vendor of this chair purchased it some time ago from another Melbourne auction house where it had been consigned as decommissioned material from the State Library of Victoria.

The only manufactures mark is the two ink stamps in the drawer. No impressed stamp to the carved panel to the door. It appears in the past some additional polish has been applied now showing areas of wear. General scuffs, scratchers, and knocks as to be expected with age. The top has several filled nail holes where it has been resecured to the frame. This is also evident with fill in screw or dowel holes to the tops of the legs and cabinet uprights. Loss to the lower applied carving of the waratah right hand side front upright. Small loss of carving to the lower right-hand corner of the door panel. Complete loss of waratah leaves and stem to the inside right cabinet upright. Small shrinkage cracks and join separations as to be expected. Small loss to edge of back right-hand leg. Structurally sound and secure, usable condition.

In original condition with no signs of restoration, top slightly marked and faded with some water stains. Shrinkage separation to the mitered corners and where the frame of the top meets the central panel of blackwood. Frames will need slight gluing but all present and in usable condition. Upholstery has what appears to be an ink stain where the seat meets the right-hand arm, also two dry glue stains/dribbles to the left-hand arm inside. Wear and scuffs to the upholstery as to be expected. Frame, legs and cross stretcher original. Two original glue blocks appear to have been re-attached. Separation cracks to some of the leg joinery and one crack to an area of the cross stretcher, this could all be professionally re-glued. Knocks, scuffs, and scratches to the legs as to be expected with age. In good usable condition.

Some sticky tape residue, one leg join only slightly loose but still sound. Upholstery is period but replaced, dirt and rubbing evident.

Vinyl upholstery in good condition with minor scuffs and rubbing. Underneath the lift out seat cushion, a wooden board has been screwed in place of replacing upholstery springs. Polished chair frame legs with original finish. Later aftermarket corner blocks have been screwed in place and metal right angle brackets attached behind the front leg and to the side rails connecting to the frame. Re-glueing the chair legs and side rails correctly would make these unnecessary. Would respond well to minor restoration.

Cross frame supporting blocks are held in place with counter sunk screws, this may not be original to manufacture but has been done a long time ago. Sound, secure and usable. Would respond well to new upholstery, a clean and a wax.
