Structurally sound. Refinished a long time ago. Numerous scuffs, dents and bruises as expected with age. One larger dent, as can be seen in the images at 11 o’clock on the backrest. A small loss to the left-hand edge of the seat. A applied turning present. An area of rubbing and indentations to the left-hand side of the backrest. A good example.

Good overall colour and finish. Knobs appear to have had some additional polishing. Original locks. The lower drawer top edge with some filler infill near the lock, this appears to have been done a very long time ago. Turned Blackwood feet appear to be original as do the knobs. Two-piece solid blackwood top with a few shrinkage cracks, separation to the original join of the two boards, and larger shrinkage crack both filled with slithers of veneer/timber. The back board of the top has been secured both sides with a fixing through the board and neatly professional filled and finished with a wooden plug, this in our opinion appears to be where the board has been secured to the side panels where it had separated from the original joins. This appears to be a professional and sympathetic repair.

  • Condition Report

Good original finish colour and patination throughout. May have had a light sympathetic over polish at some point. Bottom right hand side panel separation to the original join and uneven, this is also the case with the upper section right-hand panel but to a lesser extent. The lower left-hand panel on the right top door with cracked glass. The cushion mold that overlaps the top two doors is a later replacement. Scratches, scuffs, and dents as to be expected with age. The upper and lower exposed tenon joinery to the doors is matching in construction, the back fielded panels to the upper and lower cabinet are matching in construction. The overall cuts, colour and timber use match both top and lower section as are the brass pinlocks to both the upper and lower doors. We believe both top and bottom have always been together and are originally made. The lower left hand facing door recess panel with old splits and cracks, which have been repaired overtime.

No damage, repairs, or restoration to note. Scuffs, scratches as to be expected with age. Wooden panels would benefit from a light clean and wax. Areas of scuffs scratches and rubbing to the embossed leather panels, one tear to the reverse leather hinge between one panel, this does not affect its operation. A handsome example that needs a light clean and wax.

Some minor rubbing and pinhead dings as to be expected of a piece this age. Gilt wash interior present and in very fine order. One or two minor stress cracks to the horse finial legs and ears slightly rubbed.
