Nyanhongo was born in 1934 in Nyanga, Zimbabwe. He started sculpting together with Conrad Nyagwande in 1964 and for a while mainly sculpted curios for the tourist market. In 1980, he moved to Harare and worked with Moses Masaya, who convinced him to create more original works.
